"Arctic Tale" a cuddly global warning 96 minutes. Rated G.
By Moira Macdonald
Seattle Times movie critic

"Arctic Tale" follows Seela, a walrus pup, as she grows to adulthood.

"Arctic Tale," narrated by Queen Latifah. Directed by Adam Ravetch and Sarah Robertson, from a screenplay by Linda Woolverton, Mose Richards and Kristin Gore.

"What will their children do if it disappears?" asks narrator Queen Latifah, speaking of the animals of the rapidly melting Arctic ice in the quasi-documentary "Arctic Tale." "What will ours?"

It's an important question that "Arctic Tale," a call-to-arms follower in the footsteps of "March of the Penguins" and "An Inconvenient Truth," does well to pose. The film, directed by Adam Ravetch and Sarah Robertson, is an often beautifully photographed story of two animals growing up in the unforgiving North. Nanu, a polar bear cub, and Seela, a walrus pup, face many hardships with their families as they grow to adulthood, not the least of which is the gradual vanishing of their once-icebound home.

Much care has been taken to make this tale family-friendly, and children should be captivated by the appealing animal characters (there's a moment of walrus flatulence that should inspire rounds of giggling) and the warm let's-tell-a-story tones of Queen Latifah.

Hi Philo,

My name is Jodi Knauer of Starbucks and we have recently and regionally
established a relationship with meetup.com. We have an event
coming up on Wednesday, August 15th at one of our Starbucks
locations in Dupont Circle. This event is a National Day of
Discussion which will take place all across the country and
here locally as well. We will have NGO environmental
moderators leading a group discussion in our store here in
Dupont Circle. Also during this time period, we have partnered
with National Geographic films on their new film, Arctic Tale to
bring to a wider audience environmental issues facing our
world, both on a local and global level. I would like to
invite your group, exclusively, to be a part of our National
day of Discussion on August 15th here at our Dupont store. Our
time is flexible and I can work with you to determine the best
time for you and the members of your group. We could provide
reserved seating for your members and complimentary samples [of Starbucks products]. In addition, we can look into the possibility of tickets to see
the film, Artic Tale as a gift to your group. We would need to
limit the RSVPs to around 50 or so. I look forward to hearing
from you and thank you for your time! Take care, Jodi
