Location

How to find us
"Meeting will tentatively be in the Literature Small Reading Room as shown and described at http://www2.libraryweb.org/documentView.asp?docid=219 Please RSVP so I can get an idea of count. If response is overwhelming, I'll look into larger space."

Who attended?
Estimated attendance:  9  people attended.

Plan to meet area advocates of New Urbanism, talk about levels of previous involvement, and plan future meetings.

Also planning to review/expose members with no formal training or prior amateur interest to literature of authors such as Jane Jacobs, James Howard Kunstler, Duany, Plater-Zyberk, and Speck, Katherine Alvord, and Paul Grogan.

For now, I'm accepting up to 12 RSVP's due to the size of the library meeting room. If response is greater than anticipated, we can look into bigger space. I am more than open to help with alternatives. I prefer somewhere close to the library to facilitate literature acquisition and of course its appropriateness for a group of urbanists. smile

*NEW - I will also be putting together a visual presentation on new urbanism/livability/downtown revitalization/sustainability trends and examples at the advice of a prominent New Urbanist architecture firm.

Thanks Steve, while I agree completely that this is the number one concern, I'd posit that many factors go into shaping the perception of urban safety and that safety itself is a byproduct of good urban design. I'll go into more detail at the next meeting.

Posted the presentation materials today. Feel free to take a quick look if you have Powerpoint.

Who attended?

    •  Bob prepared a very nice presentation. I think the only thing that was missing was a clear cut mission statement for the group. I would also like to add that safety is the number one concern for people who wish to relocate and live in an urban environment.
